SUMMARY OF POSITION:

To organize, coordinate, and promote a comprehensive Middle School Fencing program to meet the needs and interests of the school community. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and stress the importance of academic achievement and social responsibility, while modeling a high degree of ethics and professionalism. This position reports to the Director of Athletics and Middle School Athletics Coordinator.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Establish and monitor rules, regulations and procedures as needed for the student-athletes participating which conform to the school, NJSIAA and MSAC Conference policies.
  • In conjunction with the Athletic Director, order and maintain supplies.
  • Instruct and advise athletes on eligibility, rules and regulations, sportsmanship, and citizenship.
  • Prepare forms, reports, inventory, and recommendations as required.
  • Compile and maintain accurate individual and team performance records.
  • Establish procedures for communicating with team and parents/guardians.
  • Plan, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning.
  • Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program.
  • Provide for the safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of environmental conditions.
  • Issue, collect, inventory, and store equipment.
  • Instruct participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or athletic trainer immediately and implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations.
  • Assume responsibility for locker rooms and other areas used by the team.
  • Maintain necessary confidentiality of medical conditions as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Athletic Administrator, maintain a schedule that conforms to the NJSIAA and MSAC Conference.
  • Other duties as assigned or required by the demands of the position and administration.
