Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative MTSS Academic Interventionist to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, delivering, and overseeing evidence-based Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic interventions, with a primary focus on foundational reading and literacy skills. Beyond direct student instruction, you will act as a key facilitator of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework - facilitating student support meetings, managing data workflows, and tracking longitudinal student progress to ensure equitable academic outcomes for every learner. The teacher works collaboratively with all GCVS staff, related service providers, and families to support student growth, wellness, and academic achievement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver explicit, diagnostic, and systematic Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading instruction to small groups and individual students using evidence-based, scientifically research-aligned interventions (e.g., Science of Reading frameworks).
  • Administer diagnostic reading assessments to pinpoint specific skill deficits (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension).
  • Differentiated instruction to address specific learning needs and adapt materials to maximize student engagement and success.
  • Facilitate regular MTSS/SST (Student Support Team) meetings with teachers, administrators, and specialized staff to review student performance and identify appropriate interventions.
  • Help classroom teachers interpret diagnostic data, select classroom-level (Tier 1) strategies, and determine when Tier 2 or Tier 3 interventions are necessary.
  • Act as a primary liaison between educators, support staff, and parents regarding academic intervention plans and student growth.
  • Evaluate intervention efficacy regularly to determine whether students should transition back to core instruction, modify intervention strategies, or be referred for further evaluation.
  • Deliver GCVS curriculum through virtual instruction aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Foster a virtual environment conducive to learning.
  • Partner with parents and colleagues to manage course goals, curriculum, and materials that best benefit the individual needs of each student.
  • Engage and nurture student learning and student relationships.
  • Utilize data-driven instruction to adjust teaching strategies based on individual student performance and assessments.
  • Promote a sense of belonging and community using district-approved platforms.
  • Proactively engage students who may face barriers to participation in a remote setting.
  • Maintain frequent and professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student milestones.

Location Preference

  • Applicants residing in the Massachusetts area are strongly preferred, with the ability to travel to locations across the state and attend GCVS events as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Valid MA State Teaching Licensure in Education, Reading/Literacy Specialist, or Special Education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Science of Reading, Orton-Gillingham methods, or structured literacy principles.
  • Deep familiarity with the MTSS framework, data-driven decision-making, and Tiered instruction models.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of teaching experience preferred, with specific experience in middle school education.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn and navigate virtual platforms (e.g., Schoology, eSped, PowerSchool, Google Suite, various teaching tools, etc.).
  • Physical/Travel: Ability to operate a computer for lengthy periods.
